OHSU Tox Fellowship

Toxicology Curriculum

In addition to daily discussions and focused reading, stimulated by ongoing case management, a two-year formal curriculum provides instruction covering all core content areas defined by the American Board of Medical Specialties sub-board in Medical Toxicology. Completion of this curriculum is one of the major goals of the program. All faculty members and fellows participate in the curriculum presentation during our Thursday afternoon weekly sessions.

The first year of the program involves:

  1. Basic course work in Pharmacology
  2. Daily toxicology case discussion rounds
  3. In-patient and out-patient bedside consultation
  4. Monthly Journal Club reviews of relevant articles
  5. Bi-Weekly Morbidity and Mortality conferences
  6. Weekly Joint teleconference with Washington and Oregon Poison Centers
  7. Preparation of Case Reports for Publication or Presentation at National Conferences
  8. Development of Research Interest
  9. Human Investigation Program for Fellows
  10. MICU Rotation

The Second Year of the Program involves:

  1. Elective course work in Public Health and Preventive Medicine
  2. Daily toxicology case discussion rounds
  3. In-patient and out-patient bedside consultation
  4. Weekly Journal Club reviews of relevant articles
  5. Bi-Weekly Morbidity and Mortality conferences
  6. Weekly Joint teleconference with Washington and Oregon Poison Centers
  7. Preparation of Articles for Publication or Presentation at National Conferences
  8. Research Project with a Faculty Mentor
  9. Human Investigation Program for Fellows
  10. Increased responsibility for lectures to medical students, residents, and paramedics
  11. Occupational Medicine Clinic
  12. PICU rotation
  13. Toxicology Laboratory Rotation
