The Oregon Health and Science University and Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital are pleased to announce the recent accreditation of our Fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. We are currently recruiting our third PEM fellow who will begin in July 2011. This partnership in post-graduate education unites both children’s hospitals in Portland in a mission to educate our next generation of pediatric emergency physicians.
The Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU supports additional fellowships in EMS, Toxicology, Research, and Education, and PEM faculty have a strong research interest in those areas. OHSU will serve as the academic and research base of the fellowship while clinical training will occur primarily at Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital, a large, busy, urban community hospital with a full spectrum of tertiary pediatric services and subspecialists, including pediatric ECMO and busy Cardiology and Hem-Onc services. The two centers are the only Level I Pediatric Trauma centers in Oregon and SW Washington. Emergency medicine residency training in Pediatric EM already occurs jointly at both institutions. Faculty for the fellowship will also hold joint medical staff appointments to both hospitals.
We welcome prospective applicants to contact the Fellowship director through Program Coordinator Kelsey Cearley via e-mail at cearleyk@ohsu.edu . A CV should be attached to the initial communication.
U.S. graduates of either accredited 3 or 4 year Emergency Medicine or 3 year Pediatric Residency are welcome. ABEM requires a minimum of 2 years of fellowship training though 3 years are strongly encouraged with an opportunity and funding to complete a masters degree through the school of public health at OHSU. Pediatric graduates are required by ABP to complete 3 years of training with the same opportunity for an advanced degree.
The curriculum is designed to meet board requirements but remains highly flexible to meet individual needs. Applicants with an interest in helping to shape a young program and take an active role in their training are encouraged to apply.
This program participates in the national match. A limited number of applicants will be invited to interview in Portland in the fall of 2010.
